The stats that separate casual fans from nerds. Welcome to nerd territory.
A per-minute rating that summarizes a player's statistical contributions. League average is 15.0. Anything above 25 is elite. Jokic had a 31.3 PER in 2023-24. Michael Jordan's career PER of 27.9 is the all-time record.
Measures scoring efficiency accounting for 2-pointers, 3-pointers, AND free throws (which regular FG% ignores). The formula: Points / (2 × (FGA + 0.44 × FTA)). Stephen Curry's career TS% of 62.6% is absurd for a guard.
Estimates a player's contribution per 100 possessions above league average. Based on box score stats adjusted for team strength. +10 is MVP-level. Jokic has consistently posted +10 to +13 BPM — historically insane.
Estimates the number of wins a player produces for their team. LeBron has the most career win shares in NBA history (250+). Kareem is second. It rewards longevity AND efficiency.
The percentage of team plays used by a player while on the court. Russell Westbrook's triple-double season had a 41.7% usage rate — the highest in the 3-point era. Basically every other play went through him.
